Quarantine bus crash kills 27 and injures 20 in China

A bus carrying people to a Covid-19 quarantine facility in China has crashed, killing 27 of those on board.

The coach overturned on a motorway in the south-western province of Guizhou. Another 20 people were injured.

Chinese business news outlet Caixin said that Sandu officials confirmed that the passengers were “epidemic-related people” being taken from Guiyang, the provincial capital, to Lido county, which is about 200 kilometers (125 miles) southeast.

Unverified reports and photos of the bus circulating throughout Sunday afternoon on Chinese social media generated a renewed outpouring of anger at China’s strict COVID policies and the initial lack of transparency from the authorities.
