Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Studies in Rural Development organised the District Level Workshop in Lucknow on “Strengthening Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights movement, especially for access to safe abortion” on the occasion of International Safe Abortion Day on 28th September 2019 in CMO Office, Lucknow. The main objective of the workshop was sharing of the findings came out from the discussions done with different stakeholders like health officials, doctors, media, group of males, females and unmarried females and other NGO partners. Other related objectives of the workshop were:
- To promote women reproductive health’s right in Lucknow District of Uttar Pradesh
- To identify gaps and improve services at health department
- To develop a concrete and comprehensive action plan to address the gaps and barriers to access safe abortion services
- To build enabling environment for SRH and abortion services at district level.
The aim of the workshop was to sensitize the policy makers and various stakeholders about the formation and objective of Sanjha Prayas network and its activities with special focus on safe abortion services. Our organisation also shared the progress made by Sanjha Prayas in Lucknow and its objective, formation, field experience, abortion scenario in Lucknow district, myths and misconception about the abortion’s legality as well as shared the findings which organization found during Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs).
In order to improve the abortion scenario and its current situation in District, our organisation organised the workshop in the presence of key stakeholders like from health department, NHM, ICDS, Media with the objective of incorporating and prioritising the issue of safe abortion in their agenda and ensure their participation in maximizing the reach of safe abortion services to the community people at every level of health facilities.
